How is it March already?

My kids go to a modified year around school, which basically means they have eight weeks off every summer and two weeks off each quarter.  We all love the break from homework, extra curricular activities and strict bedtime.  Another benefit?  Less laundry.  All day jammie day rocks!

Intercession officially started today at 2:45 pm when my kids walked out of their classroom door.   At 3:00 pm, I was made aware that St. Patrick’s day is March 17th.  They are jazzed about every holiday.  I think they are hoping a magic leprechaun will leave some candy and toys under a four leaf clover.  I think my husband is counting on someone, anyone, leaving lots of green beer in the fridge.

I don’t have green beer to give away…but I do have something special just for St. Paddy’s day.  Here’s how you enter to win:

  1. Leave a comment regarding the giveaway item.  You can comment as many times as you’d like, but you will only be entered once.
  2. For a second chance at winning, sign up for boogs’ newsletter.  Here’s the link: http://boogsbabybooteek.com/.  Don’t worry, if you have previously signed up for a newsletter, I will automatically enter your name a second time.
  3. Lastly, for a third and final chance,  simply click on the share/save button at the bottom of the post and share the fun with others.  How will I know you shared?  Just send me an email at keri@boogsbabybooteek.com and let me know.  I don’t need details…just type something like “hey keri –  i shared.”

But wait!  Enter the drawing by doing all three of the above steps,  and I’ll email you a coupon code for buy one item and get any second item, equal or lesser value, for half price.

Wanna know what March’s giveaway is?  Drum roll please….Kiss Me tee by Knuckleheads Clothing!

This tee rocks.  Anything by Knuckleheads Clothing rocks.  I wish I had a feel-o-vision blog, because if I did, you all could feel the quality of this tee.  It will outlast your boy.  It will probably also outlast his little brother.  Knuckleheads is pure quality, as well as super cool skater clothing.  And although this is technically a boys shirt, be sure to enter if you have a girl.  This tee is so soft and cozy…she will love it too.

Hurry!  The deadline for entering is midnight March 12th!

Once again, the entries will be put in a hat and one of my kids will draw a name.  The winner will be announced via the boogs’ blog first thing on Friday, lucky March 13th.

Posted: under sponsored charities.

Join the Sanchez family in the fight against cancer.  They are hosting a benefit golf tournament on Saturday, February 28th, at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona.   Come on out…it will be a beautiful day to play, lunch is included, and if that isn’t enough, there will be goodie bags and raffle prizes.

boogs has donated one of the raffle prizes…and I happen to know that it is pretty fabulous!  I enlisted the help of my hubby for ideas.  Anyone that knows Todd, knows he is the indoor golfing champion of the world and is the go to guy for anything golf related.  He and I came up with a ton of options, but settled on three of my all time favorite baby gifts.

My first favorite?  Silly Souls four piece Rock Star gift set….for two reasons.

wanna be a rock star?

wanna be a rock star?

One, because any baby sporting this ensemble will be the rock star at playgroup.  The other babies will drool and the groupies, a.k.a. moms, will want the 411. Two, because I think that anyone who has cancer, or is loving a person with cancer, deserves to be treated like a rock star.  (well maybe not the paparazzi and incarceration part of being a rock star.)

My second favorite is babygags Babes for Boobs onesie.  In addition to being super soft and super cute, it supports breast cancer awareness.

My third, and definitely not least favorite, is a pair of BabyLegs.  If you haven’t checked these out yet, you simply have to.  They come in both boy and girl styles.  One size fits all…even adults.

gotta have it

gotta have it

My teen wears them as the ultra popular knee sock.  They keep toddlers arms warm at the park.  They are the perfect accessory for a onesie or dress.  I’m telling you, a must have.

The Sanchez’s just lost a very special family member to mesothelioma cancer.  He was a son, a father, a brother, a grandpa, an uncle…just like your father, your brother, your grandpa, your son and your uncle.   We need to work together and fight for a cure for cancer.  Saturday is a great opportunity to do just that.  If you’d like more information regarding the benefit golf tournament, please email lindasanchez5@cox.net.  The Sanchez’s are taking the party to Daddy Dukes Pizzaria after the tournament.  All are welcome to come join the fun.

Absolutely…enter for a free giveaway!

  1. Leave a comment regarding the giveaway item.  You can comment as many times as you’d like, but you will only be entered once.

So what happens next?  The entries will be put in a hat and a third party (okay, one of my kids) will draw a name.  The winner will be announced via the boogs’ blog first thing on February 11th.

I must give props to my girl, Irene, a fellow blogger at Happy Healthy Families.   She posted the very first boogs’ giveaway in December.  It was so much fun, I thought I should have one every month in 2009!  (Okay, okay, I know the year doesn’t start in February.)  I’m already hunting for my March giveaway.  If you have any ideas, be sure to let me know!  Okay, so that’s it.  Thanks for having fun with me!

i heart snow

Posted: under totally cool stuff.

I love snow.  I played in lots of it when I lived in North Dakota during my childhood.  Now I live in Chandler, Arizona.  It doesn’t snow where I live.  It almost never even rains.  Come to think of it, the wind doesn’t blow here either….no earthquakes, floods or tornadoes.  Just scorching heat six months of the year.

So when my husband and I heard that snow had fallen in northern Arizona, we immediately planned a road trip.  We got up early on December 31st and packed our Durango with all the essentials.  My husband’s contribution: a sleeping bag, several beach towels, a bag of chocolate candy that Santa left us, a case of bottled water, sunflower seeds and his GPS.

I grabbed my purse, a camera, two diapers, wipes and the Krispy Kreme donuts off the counter.

And the kids…all five of them…in our space challenged Durango…packed:  pillows, blankets, backpack with toys for the car ride, DVD player and two DVDs.

Please, don’t waste your time googling the size of Arizona.  I can answer your question.  No, in fact, Arizona isn’t that big.  Round trip we were looking at about four hours total.   But you never know when the kids will need to take a nap.  Because my 5, 9, 12, and 14 year old regularly take naps.  Right after getting up in the morning.  Thank God we had the sleeping bag.  Just in case my hubby felt the urge to nap too.

After packing the car, everyone but me dressed themselves in layers of clothing.  Remember, North Dakota?  We sun tanned in bikinis when it was the temperature we expected Payson to be.  My bikini was in the laundry so, instead, I chose to wear a short sleeve tee with a hoodie.

My husband had on an undershirt, a short sleeved t-shirt, two long sleeved t-shirts and a sweat shirt.  He packed his “winter coat” with the beach towels “just in case”.  The kids were equally as layered, with the addition of scarves, mittens (okay, socks that we called mittens) and hats.  We piled in the car.

We ate donuts and sang the only snow song we knew…jingle bells…on the way out of the city.  We eyed the non-snow capped mountains off in the distance hoping we would find snow.  It wasn’t long until my husband wiped the sweat from his brow and turned up the a/c to high.  My son threatened to throw his sister’s pillow out the window.  My daughter asked if anyone wanted her blanket.  My youngest cried “no like it, no like it!” for what seemed like an eternity.  I still don’t know what he “no likes”.  Not one of them napped.

And then we saw them.  Arizonians playing in the snow on the side of the highway.  Off to our right was a huge hill full of sledders, waiting their turn to brave the steep slide.  Obviously, they were all visiting from out of state.  Not only did they have sleds and snow suits, but they had honest to goodness real gloves too!   Fortunately, off to our left, was a small area for those of us who didn’t think to pack a sled.

As luck would have it, we found a broken plastic sled abandoned in the snow at the bottom of a small hill.  We gathered up the pieces and off to the top we went.  We enjoyed several good runs, despite a bit of butt spilling over the edge of the sled.

Later, my husband and oldest son started a snowball fight.  Or war, actually.  The rest of us just tried to stay out of the line of fire.  Which wasn’t easy because apparently eating “just one more” cookie/candy/pie/fudge over the holidays pushed me over the weight limit for the snow covered mountain.  I sank two feet deep with every step I took.   I wished I had my purple and gray moon boots from back in the day.

The kids also made their very first snowman.  My oldest son, who is 14, told his younger brothers and sisters that it “was nearly impossible to actually build one”.  Can you say - native Arizonian?  Our “mittens” didn’t work out very well.  I think they are still rolled up in the belly of the snowman.

After taking several pictures to document the day, we gathered up our coats, sweatshirts, and long sleeve t-shirts from the nearby tree stump and headed back to the car.    We decided that we could have left most of what we packed at home, except maybe the donuts.  Packing dry clothes is on our must do list for next time.

Whether you live somewhere cold or planning a day in the snow, check out this rad hat by Sourpuss Clothing.  It is my Kyan’s 2008 winter must have.   Maybe we’ll buy him some gloves in 2009.

tough guy

Posted: under totally cool stuff.

My two year old, Kyan, is a bully. Okay, so maybe bully is a strong word.  He loves to hang with his peeps.  He is the first one to offer sympathy to a fallen playmate.  However, his tough guy attitude can’t be missed.  He walks with a strut.  His motto is “my way or the highway”.  He is always the leader of the pack.  I’m not sure how this manifestation came about.  Maybe because he is the youngest of five.  Or maybe because he has testosterone poisoning.  Or maybe because there is truth to the whole “don’t feed your kid candy for breakfast” thing.

Now, you wouldn’t think there was a mean bone in his body by looking at him.  Sun kissed blonde hair, rosy cheeks and big blue eyes.  He stands over three feet tall but somehow looks petite because, well, he is skinny.  Super skinny.

It is his height that gives him the upperhand.  His signature tough guy move goes something like this.  Someone touches a toy he played with in the last 341 days.  Of course he is instantly insulted.  Like a trained ninja, he snaps his arm straight out and grabs the hair on the top of the offender’s head.  He then steers the unsuspecting soul away from the toy.  Roughly.  With a glimmer in his eye.  With candy on his breath he mutters, “sorry”.

When I stumbled on this skater shirt made by Knuckleheads Clothing, I knew I had Kyan’s new playdate uniform.

tough guy zip shirt

His friends instantly know he wants to be boss when he enters the room.  That, and they should put a hat on - quick.  Plus, it is just darn cute.  It is definitely worth splurging for this must have.  It is super durable because it is made from 100% poly cotton twill.  Pair it with a beater tank in the spring or layered over a long sleeved tee in fall.

Plus, it’s on sale.  Check it out here.

tag you are it

Posted: under random thoughts of a mother of five.

A blog.  It was my idea.  Start a fabulous children’s on-line store and have a blog.  What was I thinking?  I graduated college with a degree in accounting.   I didn’t need to be able to write…only count.  I guess I did have a pre-requisite to take one business writing course.  We were required to write business papers that pertain to our college major.   Raise your hand if you want to read about accounting practices and procedures.  What!?  No hands?!  I’m shocked.

So here we are a virgin blog writer and curious, maybe even skeptical, blog readers.  I have two reasons for this blog.  My first reason is simply selfless.  I wish to highlight each and every one of my fabulous finds in an easily accessible format for all shopaholics like myself.   A nifty place to do your research for a new product you and your little one must have.

The second reason is just plain selfish on my part.  My bff just went back to work after a three year leave to be at home with her babies.  We used to talk, oh I don’t know, one or two…ok, five times a day.  These talks replaced my need to write in a journal.  These talks probably kept me from booking an appointment with a therapist.  Gone are my daily therapy talks.  So, tag, you are it.  You are my new bff.

I am sure I am supposed to keep my blogs to some sort of word minimum.  As my new bff, the first thing you should know about me is I am simply incapable of keeping my words to a minimum.  Consider yourself lucky.  You get to read my words.  You can skim them, scroll through them, or just skip over them all together.  Imagine if you had to listen to me drone on and on…five times a day.

One last bit of information you may need to know.  I am a mother of five.  Nope, I am not Mormon.  I am not Catholic.  I am not a farmer who lives so far from other people that I need to birth my own farmhands.  I am not a supermom; no home schooling, dinner is not always (um, ever?) around the table, and sometimes I even forget to take my children to their extra curricular activities.  I am just a mom who loves kids and the chaos they bring to my life.   I need all the help I can get.  So, as I said, tag you are it.
